This book explores the origins, the fortune and the diffusion of so-called “imitation lacquer”, focusing in particular on the 18th-century Venetian world.
In addition to new contributions, it gives a very clear and detailed account of a story that has its roots in the late 16th century, when the first handcrafts imitating Chinese- and Japanese-style lacquer decoration began to be produced in Europe, drawing inspiration directly from the models coming from the Far East.
