The return to the catalogue of Andrea Mantegna of three paintings from the Foresti collection of Carpi, should arouse a certain sensation.
The tables depicting the triumph of Neptune-one of which is almost unpublished, while the other two were known only in the circle of the scholars of the great Master, through the photographs prior to the cleanup-, were made using a fatty tempera.
The tint, almost monochrome, was tuned with a grisaille tone with a metallic appearance, highlighted abundantly with fine gilding, according to an extremely refined proven technique that Andrea Mantegna used on several occasions.
